Janmashtami — Celebrating Lord Krishna's Divine Birth

Janmashtami, the joyous festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna — the divine teacher of the Bhagavad Gita, the playful Makhan Chor of Vrindavan, and the wise charioteer of Kurukshetra — is one of the most colourful and spiritually enriching celebrations at Apex International Public Senior Secondary School. Every year, students, teachers and staff immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and devotional energy of this beloved festival.

Under the inspired leadership of Principal Ms. Shallu Gupta, Janmashtami at Apex is a full-day celebration that blends devotion with creativity, art with culture, and festivity with meaningful learning. It is a day when classrooms transform into stages, corridors fill with the sound of flutes and bhajans, and the campus radiates with the golden glow of tradition and faith.

Krishna's Lessons Come Alive

The Janmashtami celebrations at Apex begin with a beautifully decorated school campus — floral rangoli, yellow and blue bunting, peacock feather motifs and hand-painted murals depicting scenes from Krishna's childhood at Vrindavan. The youngest students of the school are dressed as Little Krishnas and Radhas, making the day one of the most heartwarming occasions of the year as tiny feet dance to the sound of flutes and the joy on their faces lights up every corner of the school.

A highlight of the day is the Dahi Handi event, where teams of students form human pyramids to break an earthen pot of curd hung high — a playful re-enactment of Krishna's legendary love for makhan (butter). This activity teaches teamwork, trust, determination and the spirit of never giving up — life lessons as valuable as any lesson in a textbook. The competition draws enthusiastic participation from senior students, with jubilant cheering from the audience of teachers and younger students creating an electric atmosphere.

Principal Ms. Shallu Gupta's address on Janmashtami is always a moment of deep reflection amidst the festivity. She draws from the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita — particularly Krishna's teachings on duty, equanimity and the importance of action without attachment — and connects them to the lives of students: how to face exams with composure, how to lead teams with humility, and how to find joy in learning for its own sake. Her words, simple yet profound, remind every student that the divine teacher Krishna's messages are not ancient history — they are a living guide for every challenge we face today.

The day also features devotional bhajan sessions, classical dance performances depicting tales from the Bhagavatam, a Krishna quiz testing students' knowledge of mythology and history, and a creative art activity where students paint their own impressions of Vrindavan and the divine flute. As evening approaches and the celebrations draw to a close, the entire school community joins in singing together — united in joy, gratitude and the timeless magic of India's most beloved festival.
